Effective teamwork is fundamental when it comes to providing high quality patient care and promoting patient safety.
The ED team is multidisciplinary with all working together towards the common goal of achieving positive health outcomes for the patient. The ED environment, however, is often complex and unpredictable with time-pressured staff working under chaotic and stressful circumstances. This can lead to communication errors that can compromise patient safety. The role of effective teamwork and communication is therefore paramount to ensure that critical information is shared amongst the team and acted upon to promote the best interests of the patient.
The resources in this module highlight the importance of teamwork in the ED and how to be an effective team player.
